Mystery Aircraft Lands Repeatedly in Paga, Sparking Security Concerns and Calls for Answers

Residents of Paga in the Upper East Region are demanding clarity from authorities after an unidentified aircraft, bearing tail number 60171, landed several times at the town’s airstrip between December 28 and 31, 2025, triggering fear and speculation in the border community.

Alarm has grown in Paga following reports that a mysterious aircraft repeatedly touched down at the local airstrip over a four-day period without prior notice or explanation to local authorities.

According to residents and members of the Paga Youth Movement, attempts by community members and local security personnel to approach the aircraft were unsuccessful, as it allegedly took off abruptly whenever efforts were made to get closer.

On December 31, national security agencies reportedly intervened after growing public concern. However, the youth group claims the occupants of the aircraft declined to cooperate with inquiries. The aircraft was later allowed to depart following directives from the regional police command, which reportedly identified it as a “national security aircraft.”

The Paga Youth Movement has questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident, insisting that neither district nor regional authorities were informed ahead of the aircraft’s arrival. The group further alleges that officials of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) were also unaware of the aircraft’s operations in the area.

In a statement, the group raised unverified claims that the aircraft could be linked to the United States Army and possibly involved in the movement of arms to the Sahel region. While no evidence has been provided to support these claims, the youth group says the situation is particularly worrying due to Paga’s close proximity to Burkina Faso, a country grappling with persistent security challenges.

“The silence from authorities is creating fear and suspicion among residents,” the group said, calling for a full public briefing from national security agencies and government officials to clarify the aircraft’s purpose, ownership, and authorization.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been issued by the government, national security agencies, or the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority regarding the incident.
